The Legend of Tír na nÓg
Long ago in Ireland, there was a young warrior named Oisín. One day, he met a beautiful, otherworldly woman named Niamh. She told him she came from Tír na nÓg, the Land of Eternal Youth, where no one grew old or died. She asked Oisín to go with her, and he agreed.
They traveled across the sea on a magical white horse. In Tír na nÓg, everything was magnificent—there was no sickness and no sorrow. Oisín and Niamh lived there for what felt like a few years.
One day, Oisín was feeling homesick wanted to visit home. Niamh warned him, “Do not touch the ground, or you will never return.” She gave him her magic horse to travel back.
When Oisín reached Ireland, everything was unregonizable. Hundreds of years had passed, and his family and friends were gone. He saw some men trying to move a heavy stone, and when he tried to help, he fell from the horse. As soon as he touched the earth, he aged quickly and became an old man.
Some say he told his story before he died, while others believe he was taken to the Otherworld forever. The legend of Tír na nÓg is one of Ireland’s most famous stories about time, magic, and lost love.
