The Legend of the Giant’s Causeway
A long time ago in Ireland, there was a giant named Fionn mac Cumhaill (Finn McCool). He was strong and brave, but he had a problem—another giant, Benandonner, lived in Scotland and wanted to fight him.
Fionn decided to build a path across the sea so they could fight. He used huge stones to make a bridge. This was the Giant’s Causeway. But when Fionn got closer to Scotland, he saw Benandonner was much bigger than him! Fionn was intelligent, so he made a plan.
He ran home and told his wife, Oonagh, what he had seen. She had an idea—she dressed Fionn as a baby and put him in a large cradle. When Benandonner arrived, Oonagh told him, “Be quiet! The baby is sleeping.”
Benandonner saw the massive baby and thought, “If the baby is this big, the father must be even bigger!” He became terrified and ran back to Scotland, destroying the bridge behind him. Only the stones near Ireland and Scotland remained.
Today, the Giant’s Causeway is a famous place with thousands of hexagonal stones by the sea. Some people say it was made by a volcano, but many still love the old legend of Fionn mac Cumhaill.
