Shepherd's pie

Shepherd’s pie

Shepherd’s pie is a much-loved classic of British cookery. Traditionally prepared with minced lamb, it is combined with vegetables such as carrots, peas, and onions, then crowned with a smooth layer of buttery mashed potatoes. Baked until the topping turns golden, it offers both comfort and nourishment. When made with beef, the dish is known as cottage pie.

Its origins reach back to the 18th century, when resourceful households sought to make good use of leftover meat and potatoes. Today, shepherd’s pie remains a cherished staple at British tables, admired for its hearty simplicity and timeless appeal.
