The Orange Tree Egg (1911) is one of the most unique Fabergé eggs because it doesn’t look like an egg at all! Instead, it takes the shape of a beautifully crafted orange tree in a golden pot, with tiny green enamel leaves and delicate orange fruits. But the real surprise is hidden inside—when a special mechanism is activated, a tiny mechanical songbird emerges from the branches, flaps its wings, and sings.
This egg was a gift from Tsar Nicholas II to his mother, Maria Feodorovna, for Easter. Inspired by real orange trees grown in the Russian royal greenhouses, it symbolized eternal spring and renewal. Unlike some of the more traditional Fabergé eggs, the Orange Tree Egg is a perfect example of how Fabergé combined nature, mechanics, and luxury into one incredible Easter treasure.
